Information about TSTC programming competition, registering for degree programs, and taking tests for free online. Qualifications for engineering programs may vary widely. Learn about the various specialization options available to you within this expanding technical field. If you complete the programming competition, for example, there are a variety of concentrations within software engineering that may appeal to you such as algorithm design, machine learning, or computer programming. Further, due to advances in technology, there is a growing shortage of graduates working with computer programs. You may arrange advanced placement (AP) tests and obtain an updated list of computer science department requirements from the registrar's office. Please use the form above to request admissions info for TSTC.

Computer programmers write and test code that allows computer applications to function properly. Software developers often start out with a bachelor's degree in computer science or software engineering. Computer science degree programs cover data structures, artificial intelligence (AI), programming competitions, object-oriented programming, and algorithm design. Moreover, most programmers specialize in multiple programming languages, such as php, ASP, C++, Python, JAVA, and SWIFT.

The median annual wage for computer programmers was $90,530 in May 2015. Employment of software developers is projected to grow 17 percent from 2014 to 2024, much faster than average. Software developers also need skills related to the industry in which they work. Developers working in a bank, for example, should have knowledge of finance so that they can understand a bank's computing needs. In fact, many students gain experience in software development by completing an internship at a software company while in college.

Architecture Programs

Schools of architecture are accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). Further, state licensing requirements can be found at the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). In addition, architectural registration boards require architecture graduates to complete a lengthy paid internship, gaining 3 years of experience, before they may sit for the Architect Registration Examination.

Interns in architectural firms may help design part of a project, or help prepare architectural documents and drawings, build models, and prepare construction drawings on CADD. Interns may also research building codes and write specifications for building materials. Licensed architects must go on to edit the documents that interns produce, finalize plans, and then sign and seal the documents.

Financial Aid Information

Government scholarships and Pell grant applications, combined with academic scholarships, only account for a third of total college aid. Student loans, work-study earnings, and personal savings make up the remaining two-thirds. The official FAFSA website is www.fafsa.ed.gov and is free to use. Filing taxes early is recommended, but using estimates for FAFSA from previous years is possible provided the correct data is updated later. According to the US Department of Education, nearly 45 million Americans incurred student debt during their college career.

Most private loan programs are tied to one or more financial indexes, such as the BBA LIBOR Rate, plus an overhead charge. Financial aid may be administered via the Department of Education or through your school's financial aid office. High school grades are the most important factor in gaining admission to the college of your choice, along with letters of recommendation. According to SUNY Old Westbury grading scale, an ideal academic record consists of a high GPA in courses of progressive difficulty. Peterson's scholarship search is good to check not only for college scholarships, but also for the extensive resources on the college application process. The Gates Millennium Scholars program is a minority scholarship program targeted towards outstanding African-American, American-Indian, and Latino students.

Business & Engineering Jobs

As the economy improves, many private firms are beginning to hire more technical personnel. Whether you are an experienced educator, or a recent graduate, you can seek a new position. The Fundamentals of Engineering exam should be taken immediately after earning a bachelors degree from an ABET-accredited program. Engineers who pass this exam are called engineers in training (EIT), or engineer interns. After meeting work experience requirements, engineer interns can attempt a second certifying exam, called the Principles and Practice of Engineering Exam.
